Abu
Musa reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: "The
honest Muslim trustee who spends (sometimes he said "who gives") what
he is commanded to do and he gives that in full with his heart overflowing with
cheerfulness and he gives it to one to whom he is ordered, he is one of the
givers of charity." (Sahih Muslim Book 5, Number 2231 )
The Islamic Association of
North Texas (IANT) in conjunction with Network of Community Ministries, Jewish
Family Services, Richardson Independent School District (RISD), North Texas Food
Bank and other service organizations work hard to assist families that are in
need. This year pose a special
demand for community involvement, due to recent events that blessed our
community with many more inhabitants.
On Friday, November 18,
2005, volunteers from IANT helped to assemble 500 Thanksgiving dinner food
baskets for evacuees of Hurricane Katrina and Rita, as well as for needy
families in the Richardson area. Baskets
consisted of non-perishable items to prepare a home cooked Thanksgiving meal and
a Kroger gift card for the purchase of perishable items.
Based on our Islamic commitment of giving charity, on Sunday, November
20, there were twenty-four IANT volunteers on hand to assist in distributing
food baskets to families. There
were men, women and children who worked hand in hand with members of other
organizations to make this event a success.
We thank and applaud all
the volunteers who came out to assemble and distribute the food baskets, your
smiles, hard work and dedication to community service is what makes our
community strong and grand. Again,
we thank you and look forward to working with you all on the next call for
community service in the name of Islam.
